Samuel · December 29, 2020 · Leave a Comment

Looking for answers to solve this mystery once and for all? You have reached the right place!

Light Microscope Called A Compound Microscope

Here, I will be telling you all about why a light microscope is also called and known as a compound microscope and what are the actual similarities between them.

With the purpose and usage of both light and compound microscope at your hand, you can easily figure out on your own why a light microscope is known as a compound microscope.

So let’s get right into it!

What’s A Compound Microscope And Its Purposes

A compound microscope is a highly powered microscope with more than one lenses to create a high magnification level.

Its multiple lenses, known as the objective lens, are used for different ranges in magnification.

A typical compound microscope will allow you a magnification that will go from 40x to 1000x, from which you can easily observe the bacteria.

This higher magnification is produced when the compound microscope uses to lens to magnify instead of using just one.

There is more than one type of compound microscope. These types serve a different purpose, but if you look at them, they all are compound microscopes.

Here are the few types with their purposes:

  • Biological microscope
  • Phase-contrast microscope
  • Polarizing microscope
  • Metallurgical microscope

What’s A Light Microscope And Its Purposes

A light microscope is known as a light microscope because of its ability to use light to detect small specimens.

The light microscope is one of the most well-known and well-used microscopes in the field of science.

The light microscope not only helps you see even the smallest of specimens and objects. But since expensive things are always rare and hard to get their hands on.

Light microscopes, while being one of the best instruments in the field of science, have a shortlist of being sold.

Since they are expensive and because of the increasing quality and require more care than the other microscopes, they are also hard to find and expensive to buy.

Why Light Microscope & Compound Microscope Are Called The Same

Although light and compound microscopes are two completely different instruments that give out their work differently, there are some similarities between a light and a compound microscope.

These similarities create a bridge between the light and compound microscope, which sometimes confuses people.

The light microscope is sometimes called a compound microscope because of its ability to use several lenses at a time, just like a compound microscope.

Normal light microscopes cannot reach the highest magnifications because of their single-lens magnification system.

Yet, compound light microscopes do have multiple lenses from which they can create higher power magnifications, which is why light and compound microscopes are mixed!

Conclusion

Now that we have reached the end of the article, I hope by now you know the difference between a light and a compound microscope.

If you still have any questions or if you are still confused by anything. Make sure to read the purposes and similarities between both of the microscopes once again!

About Me

Samuel

Greetings everyone! I am Samuel and very fond of microscopy since my childhood.

I always wondered how the micro-world would be and was keen to explore it. From that time up till now, I have used tons of microscopes and keep great knowledge about them.

In case you need any kind of guidance regarding microscopes, I am the person to reach out to.
